Eden Street, The Kite, Cambridge

City centre development of 8 new houses

Completed September 2014
GDV £1.3 million

Our client on this project was Jesus College.  We were awarded the contract on a Design & Build basis by the College following a successful competitive tender.

The eight brand new townhouses replaced a collection of old, dilapidated garages.  The architecture encompassed modern day building techniques and was complemented by a high quality specification – both internally and externally.

Challenging aspects of the construction included restricted site access, mains sewer diversions, piled foundations and formation of heritage walling from reclaimed materials.  There was also daily neighbour liaison to ensure minimal impact on the local community.

Following completion, this development was shortlisted in the RIBA East Awards 2015.

Often new-builds can be seen as being ‘bolted on’ to the communities in which they are built.  Not so in the case of this Eden Street development.  The approach – and the result – was a development which was welcomed and absorbed into the neighbourhood.  Some might say community relations are purely the developer’s concern, not that of the builders.  We disagree.
